Headquartered close to Lugano, Datamars is a global market leader in the provision of high performance identification solutions for the animal (livestock and pets) and industrial textiles industries.
Columna first invested in Datamars in 2011 through a minority investment when the company had less than 1% market share in livestock identification (LID). Columna’s investment strategy was to take full control of Datamars and back management’s plan to become the No. 2 player in LID globally.
With the support of Columna, management completed nine add-on acquisitions across Europe, the US and New Zealand delivering significant organic growth as well as margin improvement through vertical integration of the supply chain.
In early 2017, Columna realised its investment in Datamars and re-invested in the company alongside management and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec to execute the next phase of the group’s growth strategy.
